30-Second Setup

What matters this week

  • U.S. markets are closed Monday for Labor Day, leaving traders with a shortened four-day week.
  • Inflation is the main macro story. August PPI arrives Thursday and CPI follows Friday, just days before the Fed's September 15โ€“16 meeting.
  • Apple holds its September event Wednesday at 1:00 PM ET. The event could create movement in AAPL and parts of the broader tech market.
  • Oracle and Adobe report Thursday after the close. Both will put software and AI-related spending back in focus.
  • Focus: inflation, Treasury yields and whether tech can hold momentum as rate-hike expectations remain elevated.
  • SpaceX: Watch for potential headlines from the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference that could affect SPCX sentiment this week.

Thursday after the close. Oracle is one of the week's most important tech reports. Traders will be watching cloud growth, AI infrastructure demand and whether heavy AI spending continues translating into revenue growth.

ADBE โ€” Adobe

Thursday after the close. Adobe reports after a major leadership change and continued questions about how generative AI will affect its core software business. AI monetization and guidance should be the key areas to watch.

GME โ€” GameStop

Dagger Trading Take

CPI could decide the week.

Last Friday's strong jobs report put a September rate hike firmly back on the table. Now inflation gets the final major word before the Fed meets next week.

The shortened week still has plenty of potential catalysts: Apple's event Wednesday, PPI and major software earnings Thursday, then CPI Friday morning.
